Mentorship Programs

Mentorship goes a long way. Through our mentorship initiative, we like to pair up young people with a big brother/big sister that they can relate to and identify with. One that can serve as a credible mentor to help them navigate through life's challenging circumstances as they move through the teenage and adolescent years.

Recreational Opportunities

Each year D.O. hosts a variety of "family fun" events that are usually free or a nominal donation for entry. Our current partnership with the Chicago Sky, has afforded us the chance to offer more than 100 families the opportunity to attend a WNBA game free of charge. We also host skating parties, lock-ins, an easter egg hunt, an alternative halloween bash and many many more events for children and families attend.

Attack the "War On Hunger"

Homelessness and Hunger are two social issues that are dear to our organization. We know there are countless number of families in our backyard that are affected by these horrible conditions and we want to do our part to help. Every month, DO host a free Community Kitchen for anyone that is in need of a warm meal. It’s just one small step towards bridging the gap for children and families that are plagued by the hunger epidemic.

"Put Your Sole In It" - Shoe Drive

D.O. sponsors the “Put Your Sole In It” shore drive each year. Our goal through this program is to raise 1000 pair of gently worn or new shoes that can be donated to men, women and children that are in need. During this campaign, we partner with other community outreach organizations to set up collection boxes to make it easy for people to get involved. Please check back on our website for updates on this year’s campaign.

Health Screening and "Power In The Blood" Blood Drive

Creating a healthier “us” is also an important initiative for DO. We want to do our part by increasing awareness about some of the common diseases that are affecting people more and more each day. Participating in a health screening free of charge is a sure way to know where one stands and help our community become healthier. Closing the gap on the shortage of blood is another way we help our community. Do you part by participating in an upcoming blood drive hosted by DO and The Red Cross.
